Brooklyn Global Shapers
We are a global initiative of the World Economic Forum that covers 508 hubs across 104 countries and 20,000 students and young professionals committed to leading and actualizing grass-roots and community-led social impact projects focused on social innovation, economic development, and systems change.
This page features images from a few of our intiatives in 2025. The Sun Rises in Brooklyn invited Brooklyn native and generational community organizer, Lumumba Akindele-Bandele. As a student of Freedom Now School, Lumumba urged our hub and community to find our purpose, find a way to contribute our time and lend our care. There are so many ways to serve community.
Climate Connect is environmental storytelling and artmaking initative. We explore how our cultural, local and generational stories can shape environmental justice. In our partnership with GenSpace, we crafted microbial dyed swatches. Stay tuned to see these come together in a community quilt.
While we are based in Brooklyn, we frequently collaborate with the 3 other NYC Hubs (Bronx, Manhattan and NYC general) and invite Shapers from around the world to ideate with us. This NYC Cross Hub retreat hosted Shapers to think about the fractal impact of our work-- how far can local community service impact go?
